SuDS Planters & HydroPlanter Install, Manchester

For this project we supported a principal contractor with the delivery of a SuDS retrofit on a live education site. Sustainable Garden Solutions installed prefabricated HydroPlanter and SuDSPod units alongside the associated groundworks, SuDS and drainage connections, reinstatement and planting, keeping the site safe, tidy and handover-ready throughout.

We began with service location and verification using CAT and Genny scanning, then delivered a controlled excavation sequence combining light machine work with careful hand-digging where required. Existing asphalt was wet-cut to control dust with RAMS and COSHH controls plus full PPE, followed by breakout and formation using a 3T excavator with breaker attachment and hand refinement to maintain clean edges and accurate levels.

Once excavations were formed, We set out, positioned and levelled each HydroPlanter and SuDSPod unit, adapting placements sensibly where site constraints required it while maintaining the intended design outcome. Drainage and downpipe connections were completed using solvent-weld PVC joints to achieve watertight connections, then the works were finished with clean edging, reinstatement and planting to complete the urban greening scheme.

As part of the wider drainage detail, We installed ACO drainage channels by forming shallow trenches with reduced-vibration breaking, setting units on a full wet bed, and returning after curing to reinstate neatly with cold-lay tarmac. Final finishing included jet-washing, checking water flow through drainage runs, and completing digital sign-off for a safe, clean handover on a public-facing commercial project.
