Residential
Reclaimed Stone & Oak Garden in Medway

For this residential project in Medway, the garden already had a secluded, nature-led feel thanks to a rich, biodiverse mix of plants, shrubs, trees and wildflower features. The client loved that softness but wanted more structure and better usability without the space feeling heavy or overbuilt. Sustainable Garden Solutions designed a set of subtle, crafted interventions that cut through the planting while keeping everything calm, natural and connected.
We created a series of bespoke pergolas and arbours alongside seating and step structures that gently guide you through the garden. Rather than forcing hard lines, the layout focuses on moments within the journey: places to pause, sit and feel wrapped in planting while still keeping the garden open and relaxed.
Materials were central to achieving the “wild & reclaimed” character with a lighter footprint. We used dry-stone walling where possible to reduce reliance on high-impact materials and to deliver a structure that’s naturally durable and repairable over time. Underfoot and on key surfaces, reclaimed York stone adds timeless texture and hardwearing practicality. Repurposed weathered oak brings warmth and an immediate sense of age and character so the new elements feel settled from day one.
The end result is the “ancient, magical” atmosphere the client was after: a garden that feels like it has been there for years, with sustainability built into the decisions rather than added on at the end.
