Maidstone Decking & Sandstone Terrace Uplift

This Maidstone residential project began with a straightforward need: replacing damaged decking. But for the client, the bigger goal was a garden re-landscape that felt calmer, more inviting and genuinely usable day to day. At Sustainable Garden Solutions, we guided the decisions from the ground up, explaining the why behind the layout so the finished space would support outdoor living as well as future gardening.

We reshaped the garden around clear zones and comfortable transitions, balancing levels, access, durability and long-term practicality. The design centres on two primary hosting terraces to create proper spaces for sitting, eating and being outside. Below that, we formed a lower working garden designed for hands-on tending and growing. Between the two, we built a mid-point pause space that acts as a natural checkpoint in the journey through the garden, encouraging reflection and a view back across the whole layout.

The materials were chosen to keep everything cohesive and low-fuss while still feeling special. We combined timber balustrades with sandstone paving and sandstone cladding, using machined-finish ivory sandstone to introduce a gentle pastel undertone that softens the hardscape. That calm base gave the planting room to shine. We layered whites, pinks, purples and greens through the scheme with salvias as a key feature, bringing movement and lift while also supporting pollinators. With ongoing gardening in place, we’re now helping the garden settle and mature so it stays low-maintenance without losing the softness and life that makes it feel like a garden.

A few client-led changes mean some uplift and detailing is still being completed and once the final touches are signed off we’ll arrange a professional photoshoot to capture the finished result.
