Residential
Permaculture Garden Design in Orpington

For this residential project in Orpington, the client wanted a garden they could fall in love with: a rich, biodiverse permaculture space with planting, veg growing, composting, native plants, and unique features and with the lawn removed. We said yes and redesigned the space as a living system rather than a set of separate beds.
Sustainable Garden Solutions removed the lawn and rebuilt the garden around productive and wildlife-supporting zones. The design leans into playful shapes and immersive features that guide you through the space and keep it feeling full of discovery, including living arches, dedicated edible zones, standing deadwood habitat, and wildflower areas to soften the edges and add movement.
Planting was layered to perform and look good over time. We included natives for resilience and habitat value, plus edibles at multiple levels with ground cover, fruiting shrubs and fruit trees. We also added dynamic accumulator plants to support soil health and help the garden thrive as it matures. Composting and productive growing areas were integrated so the garden works as a cycle, not a constant input-and-remove routine.
The result is an abundant, wildlife-friendly garden that feels genuinely exciting with colour, texture and purpose while still being a space the client can enjoy and grow into. This is a new install, and spring is when it will really start to show its character. We are looking forward to revisiting it and capturing it with a professional photoshoot.
