Residential
Tiered Garden Planting & Railings in Cuxton

This residential project in Cuxton was less about the size of the space and more about the finishing details that make a tiered garden feel calm, connected and safe to use every day. With natural levels already in place, the brief was to soften the edges with planting, add a touch of structure, and make the garden dog-safe without introducing anything clunky or over-engineered.
Sustainable Garden Solutions lined the borders with pretty planting to bring softness, colour and movement across the tiers. Keeping it light and natural helped the levels read as one intentional layout, so the garden feels inviting and cohesive rather than broken into separate steps.
To solve the safety issue, we built bespoke low timber railings along the tier edges. The railings are deliberately understated: high enough to stop a dog launching off a level, but subtle enough that they don’t interrupt the view. If anything, they add gentle rhythm and framing, enhancing the edges rather than blocking them.
The result is a simple idea done properly: clean detailing, soft planting, and a garden that looks more finished, feels safer, and is easier to live with.
